In Class 5A, Region 3 football, upstart Riverdale plays at Power Manatee

The Riverdale High School football team will enter new territory when the Raiders travel to Bradenton for the Class 5A, Region 3 final against Manatee on Friday.

The Raiders (10-2) will play in the third round of the state playoffs for the first time after an 18-14 win in Fort Myers last week. The victory was just the third postseason win in the 55-year history of the Riverdale program, with two coming this season.

Awaiting the Raiders is a star-studded Hurricanes program that appears to have regained the swagger that befits a five-time state champion. Manatee (9-1) defeated Immokalee 54-8 last week to reach the regional final for the first time since 2019. The Hurricanes have won 15 regional championships in their illustrious history and have a sparkling 68-31 record in the FHSAA state playoffs. a winning percentage of 0.687.
