The Wolves go full throttle in fourth place and crush the Warriors for their fourth straight win

The Golden State Warriors started to fade, but the Minnesota Timberwolves didn’t let them come back, going full throttle in the fourth quarter en route to a 107-90 victory, their fourth straight, on Friday night in San Francisco.

The Wolves (12-10) led by as many as 19 points at one point, but their lead shrank to 80-77 early in the fourth quarter. Then Mike Conley drilled a corner 3-pointer. Anthony Edwards hit another three-pointer, drew a foul and made the ensuing free throw.

The lead was back to 10, and that was more or less enough as both teams struggled to make shots down the home stretch.

With just under six minutes left, Nickeil Alexander-Walker scored a 3 that felt like a dagger. Edwards, who finished the game with 30 points, nine assists and four rebounds, hit a jump shot on the next possession for a 94-79 lead. Another layup, a foul and a free throw from Edwards gave them an 18-point lead and ended any hopes of a Warriors comeback.

The Wolves outscored the Warriors 29-18 in the fourth quarter.

Rudy Gobert continued his winning streak with 17 points, 12 rebounds, one assist and one steal. Julius Randle finished the game with 16 points, nine rebounds and four assists. Mike Conley had 13 points, four assists, four rebounds and four steals.

It wasn’t a particularly pretty game, but that was partly because the Wolves continued to impose their defensive will that has fueled their current winning streak. After a 31-31 tie after one quarter, Minnesota held the Warriors (13-9) scoreless for six minutes in the second quarter and built a lead of as many as 19 points. They got their hands on passes, forced turnovers, and it was a three-pointer from Edwards that gave them their largest lead up to that point.

The Warriors had 22 turnovers on the night – Minnesota had 12 steals – and the Wolves had 21.

Golden State, led by future Hall of Famer Steph Curry, who scored a team-high 23 points to go along with four assists and two rebounds, was never going to go away quietly. The Warriors ended the first half with an 11-2 run and reduced their deficit to 10 at halftime. They kept their momentum going in the third quarter. But they ran out of gas in the fourth.

The result was Wolves’ fourth win in a row and their third in dominant fashion.
