SAN FRANCISCO – Anthony Edwards had 30 points and nine assists and the Minnesota Timberwolves beat the Golden State Warriors 107-90 on Friday night in the first of two games between the teams this weekend.

Stephen Curry returned for Golden State after missing a win over Houston the night before and resting his sore knees. He scored 23 points.

Curry’s 3-pointer cut it to 80-77 with 10:38 left, but the Warriors again struggled to control the ball and make crucial stops.

Rudy Gobert had 17 points and 11 rebounds for the T-Wolves, who stay in town to play again on Sunday at Chase Center.

Draymond Green also played after missing Thursday with left calf strain. Green, who played with the second unit at a time when coach Steve Kerr wanted a veteran on the court, had 10 points, nine rebounds and six assists. He completed his seventh technical test this season.

Timberwolves: Minnesota has won the last five games of the series and four straight at Chase Center since its 12-game losing streak ended at the Warriors’ home stadium. The Timberwolves had a 27-19 rebounding advantage in the first half and took a 56-46 lead at halftime.

Gary Payton II’s layup off a pass from Curry with 1:18 left in the third would have cut Minnesota’s lead to seven points, but the Timberwolves challenged the play and it was overturned to an offensive foul.

Important statistics

Curry scored his first points of the night on a 19-foot shot, was fouled and converted a three-point play with 32 seconds left in the first quarter. He missed his first four 3-pointers and shot 3-for-9 from distance.
