Rakhmonov vs Garry odds, tips and predictions

The final UFC pay-per-view card of 2024 is just around the corner. That fight card, UFC 310, takes place on Saturday, December 7th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The main event of the evening is a title fight between UFC flyweight champion Alexandre Pantoja and Kai Asakura, who makes his UFC debut at UFC 310. The co-main event pits two undefeated welterweights against each other in a matchup that will likely send the winner into a forfeit title shot against the UFC’s 170-pound champion Belal Muhammad. In this fight Shavkat Rakhmonov takes on Ian Machado Garry. Below we look at the betting odds for this match and offer our picks and predictions for Rakhmonov vs. Garry at UFC 310.

UFC 310 Fight Card Co-Main Event: Shavkat Rakhmonov vs. Ian Machado Garry

For this card, the UFC initially booked Shavkat Rakhmonov (18-0) against UFC welterweight champion Belal Muhammad. This fight fell through when Mohammed was forced to withdraw from the event due to a bone infection in both legs. Rakhmonov enters UFC 310 and is the No. 3 fighter in the official UFC welterweight rankings.

Rakhmonov joined the UFC in October 2020 after winning and defending the M-1 Global welterweight crown. The 30-year-old from Uzbekistan has skyrocketed in the UFC rankings thanks to a 100 percent completion rate. In six UFC matches, Rakhmonov has five submissions and one knockout. Only one of his UFC appearances has made it into the third round.

In his last fight, Rakhmonov defeated former two-time UFC title challenger Stephen Thompson. This fight took place in December 2023.

Rakhmonov has only made it past the second round once in his career, in March 2023 when he defeated Geoff Neal at 4:17 of the third stanza.

Garry (15-0) has an 8-0 record under the UFC banner. The 27-year-old has five decisions and three knockouts. In his last appearance, Garry defeated Michael “Venom” Page at UFC 303.

Garry initially seemed like a clone of Conor McGregor, but the confident Irish fighter has found his own personality as a competitor who is more than ready to take on the toughest competitors the UFC can pit him against.

This fight is a huge step forward in competition for Garry. A victory over an opponent as talented as Rakhmonov will greatly increase Garry’s success and his already overflowing confidence.

UFC 310 Fight Card: Shavkat Rakhmonov over Ian Machado Garry

“The last time Ian Garry won after the fight he called me out. He wanted this fight in December, and now he has confirmed his words,” Rakhmonov told Ariel Helwani.

“At that time (when we were training together) his wife asked me if she could film the sparring footage and I agreed. But they haven’t asked me whether they can publish it or not, and I wonder why they haven’t published the other part of this sparring.

“Ian Garry types. It was a submission. A choke,” Rakhmonov added.

“The most important thing for me is the win. You know, sparring is sparring,” Rakhmonov continued. “The fight is different and Ian Garry is a very tough opponent who is a good tactician and has a good game plan. So for me it doesn’t matter whether it’s submission or interruption. For me, the most important thing is winning.

“I could have fought for the title. I could have just waited for the title fight, but I wanted to fight. I wanted to stay active and strengthen my position as the No. 1 contender. So definitely, I’ll fight for a title after the win.”

“People keep talking about how he (Rakhmonov) is the scariest man in the division,” Garry added.

“All I have ever done in my career is win and beat everyone in front of me. “On Saturday night I’m going to do it in the nicest way I can, against the most dangerous guy I’ve ever faced.”

“The world will be speechless… My world will not be remotely shocked.”

UFC 310 Fight Card: Shavkat Rakhmonov vs. Ian Machado Garry Tips and Predictions

The biggest concern for Garry in this fight is his chin. The question isn’t whether Garry can take a punch, he can, but he tends to charge into the air a lot with his chin up. His previous opponents were unable to exploit this weakness in the young fighters’ attack. Someone as skilled as Rakhmonov is likely to make his opponent pay for this kind of hubris and recklessness.

The tip and prediction for the co-main event of UFC 310 is that Rakhmonov will beat Garry by knockout.
