“Duck Dynasty” star Phil Robertson has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease

According to his family, “Duck Dynasty” star Phil Robertson was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease while battling a blood disorder.

The 78-year-old’s health issues were revealed by his son Jase on Friday’s episode of the Unashamed with the Robertson Family podcast, titled “Phil’s Diagnosis.”

“Phil isn’t feeling well,” Jase said. “According to the doctors, they are sure that he is suffering from a blood disorder that is causing all sorts of problems.”

The Robertson patriarch had been battling the blood disease for “a few years” but Jase said it had now progressed “faster”.

“It is causing problems with his entire body and he is suffering from early-stage Alzheimer’s. So when you put those things together, he’s just not doing well. “He’s really struggling,” Jace revealed.

The Louisiana duck hunter, who played a large role in the podcast, which focuses on the family’s Christian faith, has insisted he wants to return to the show.

“I’m thinking, ‘Phil, you can barely walk around without knowing it and screaming in pain,’ and I say, ‘You know, your memory ain’t what it used to be,'” Jase said.”

“There are good days and bad days,” added his son Alan Robertson. “It’s the same with Dad. Some days he’ll be a little better, you know, a little wittier, but other days not so much.”

Phil’s sons claim that their father’s health and memory are unlikely to improve absent a “supernatural intervention” from God. That’s why they try to make him as comfortable as possible.

“We have a team of doctors, then we have another group of doctors looking at all the tests and they all agree that there is no cure for his disease,” Jase said. “What are you doing? We’re trying to make him a little more comfortable.”

Jase added that the family didn’t know what the problem was at first, but said they were “well advanced in knowing these things as facts.”

Phil came to see his sons on opening day of duck season but didn’t fire his gun at all.

He said Phil came to them on the opening day of duck season in November and noticed his father’s condition was deteriorating.

The outspoken outdoorsman “didn’t fire his gun at all” or speak much during “one of the best opening days we’ve ever had” when the family shot 32 ducks.

“After the hunt he said, ‘Jase, I was miserable,” he remembers. “It just hurt him and he couldn’t do anything. He just said, “Don’t call me, I’ll call you when I’m ready to go back.”

“If he’s not able to go duck hunting, that tells you everything you need to know.”

Phil founded his hunting company Duck Commander in 1973. The Robertson family starred on the hit 2012 A&E show before the series ended in 2017.

Phil married Kay Robertson in 1966 and they have four children. In 2020, Phil discovered that he had a daughter named Phyliss, now in her late 40s, with a woman he had an affair with decades ago.
