Rich Rodriguez is reportedly about to interview for the head coaching position at WVU

As expected, an interview is scheduled for Jacksonville State head coach Rich Rodriguez for the head coaching position, according to WVNews.

Since Neal Brown was relieved of his duties on Sunday night, the former Mountaineer head man has been rumored to take the WVU job. During his short, two-year tenure, he did a phenomenal job building Jax State and helping them transition from FCS to FBS. By reaching the six-win mark this season, Jacksonville State became the first program to reach a bowl game at a higher level in each of its first two years.

“Rich Rod” is backed by one of WVU’s biggest donors, Ken Kendrick, and his former punter/kicker turned sports media star, Pat McAfee.

“His name is up there now,” McAfee said on his show earlier this week. “His name is part of the discussion now, and I think it has been for a few years.” It’s crazy. That would be one of the wildest things in the history of sports, let alone college football. I mean, if he were to go back to West Virginia, there would have to be a lot of conversations with a lot of people. And believe me, it was a great interaction between me and former teammates where we talked about the entire idea and thought behind it.

During his seven years in charge from 2001 to 2007, Rodriguez posted a 60-26 record and kept West Virginia one game away from a national championship appearance.
