Ariana Grande slams “dangerous” body-shaming comments as speculation grows about her appearance

Ariana Grande has no time for naysayers.

The pop star, who is currently doing press work to promote the hugely successful movie musical Wicked, took some time in an interview to speak out against the body shaming she has experienced over her many years in the industry.

The interview, conducted by a French journalist and content creator named Crazy Sally, appeared to be emotional for Grande, who was accompanied by her “Wicked” co-star Cynthia Erivo. Erivo held Grande’s hand as the singer discussed the topic.

When asked how she deals with women’s high beauty standards, Grande took a moment to compose herself before beginning: “I do this in front of the public and I’ve really been a specimen in a petri dish ever since.” I was 16 or 17, so I heard all about what was wrong with me, and then you fix it, and then it’s wrong for various reasons.

She continued: “But that’s everything, even the simplest thing, like the way you look. You’re young and you hear all sorts of things.”

Grande said, “It’s hard to protect yourself from that noise,” and clarified that you don’t have to be a global superstar to experience and struggle with this kind of criticism.

“It’s something that’s uncomfortable no matter what degree you experience it, even if you go to Thanksgiving dinner and someone’s grandma says, ‘Oh my God, you look thinner, what happened?’ or ‘You look heavier, what happened?'” she said. “This is something unpleasant and terrible, no matter where it happens, no matter the scale of it.”

These days, she surmised, some people feel more comfortable than ever commenting on another person’s appearance or “what they think is going on behind the scenes or their health.” She described the fact that these people feel “really dangerous…for everyone involved” as a “convenience.”

In recent weeks, as Grande has made more appearances and interviews to promote “Wicked,” several of her fans and critics alike have taken to social media to comment on her appearance, with many of them discussing her weight.

Some have expressed concerns that she now appears thinner than before, with many even comparing her to legendary singer Karen Carpenter, who died of anorexia at the age of 32.

“I’m really lucky to have the support system that I have and just know and trust that I’m beautiful,” Grande said. “But I know what the pressure of that noise feels like. He has been a constant companion in my life since I was 17. I just don’t invite him anymore, he’s not welcome. I have work to do, I have a life to live.” In addition to life, I have friends to love So much love. It’s not invited, so I’m leaving no room for it.”

She advised anyone struggling with something similar to take care of themselves, whether by distancing themselves from people in their life who make them feel these ways or by deleting social media apps.

“Watch yourself because no one has the right to say s—,” she said firmly, before laughing and asking, “Can you tell I needed that today?”

A representative for Grande did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
