Weather in Manitoba: More snowfall on the way

The latest snowfall reached northern Manitoba on Friday. At the weekend it’s the south’s turn.

A low pressure system originating from the Northwest Territories is bringing snow to northwestern Manitoba this afternoon.

Snow will spread northeast this evening and later tonight.

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) expects snowfall amounts to generally be around 4 to 8 cm.

This is not a particularly effective system, but it could produce freezing rain along its southern edge.

Northwestern Ontario is on deck this afternoon and snow is expected to spread across the region this evening and continue into Saturday, mostly in the morning.

Temperatures tonight and tomorrow will be mild for early December, so freezing rain and even ice pellets could mix with the snow. This could lead to dangerous driving conditions.

Friday afternoon and the following night will be relatively uneventful for Winnipeg and the rest of southern Manitoba.

However, there is a risk of freezing drizzle in many areas this afternoon. There is also a risk of freezing rain in Winnipeg overnight. A little snow cannot be ruled out further north around Gimli this evening.

The weekend can be summed up well for the south: sunshine and rising temperatures on Saturday and snow on Sunday.

Temperatures will rise well above normal and above freezing tomorrow, with most areas experiencing sunshine or a mix of sun and clouds.

It’s actually supposed to start snowing on Saturday night.

ECCC says a layer of snow will spread from the Battlefords to Winnipeg between Saturday and Sunday night, likely triggering snowfall warnings.

Snow is expected to continue in Winnipeg on Monday

As soon as the cold front associated with the low pressure area has passed through, colder temperatures are expected from Tuesday.
