Kalen DeBoer reacts to Alabama’s place in the College Football Playoff rankings

Kalen DeBoer knows the situation Alabama is there when it comes to that College Football Playoffs: They are the last team.

This is how it currently stands. To get the clearest view of the standings, the Crimson Tide will have to wait and see what happens in the conference championship games.

But for now, DeBoer is preparing Alabama for a playoff run for a national title.

“I understand that the committee has to make a difficult decision. It has to be absolutely understood, you know, and trying to reconcile everything,” DeBoer said on The College GameDay Podcast. “There are so many really good teams in the country, not just at the top but throughout the team, so you don’t know how it’s going to turn out. But you certainly know that you’re happy and you understand, I guess you know selfishly, and you know from our side, you know where we feel like we belong and feel like we’re one of those teams that’s on everyone Should be in the playoffs.

“Obviously a little bit biased, but I just also took a step back and have some perspective, you know, given the type of season we’re having, the teams we’re playing and especially the wins we’ve had, that’s for me just a real feeling like we belong there and that we have the kind of team that can go the distance on this occasion.”

DeBoer has doubled his rankings since the rankings were announced Tuesday, at least the second-to-last ones.

“I know, from the inside? You know, we talk about us being one of the top 12 teams from our perspective,” DeBoer said. “It’s not selfish, it’s not arrogance. I don’t talk like that. But we understand who we are, you know.”

However, DeBeor is clear that Alabama is currently in a bubble. This will enable them to be honest with their team about where they will stand on the committee at the end of the tournament.

“Yeah, well, I mean, I think we’re now back to the point of kind of living up to the culture and everything you were talking about? We’re at a point where we can be really open and straightforward,” DeBoer said. “You know, I told them that there is a committee that makes some difficult decisions and we all understand that. There are so many great teams in college football.”
