Frank is “hopeful” about the Brentford duo

Brentford head coach Thomas Frank gave an update on Christian Nørgaard and Kristoffer Ajer ahead of the Bees’ Premier League game against Newcastle United on Saturday.

Nørgaard missed the midweek trip to Aston Villa, while Ajer has been out since October with a foot injury.

“I am still very confident that Nørgaard will be available,” Frank began.

“He trained on the pitch today, so that’s positive. Kristoffer Ajer (trained) too.

“I am more confident that Nørgaard will be there than Ajer.”

The west Londoners suffered a 3-1 defeat at Villa Park on Wednesday.

When asked how big the defeat was for Nørgaard, Frank replied: “You always want to have your best players on the pitch and he is one of our best players.

“He has been one of the most consistent players of the last five years.

“Of course we would have liked to have had him on the pitch, but I trust the players who played last night and we have already won games without Christian.

“But I’m very happy that he’ll probably be ready for Saturday.”

Mathias Jensen (thigh), Gustavo Nunes (back), Rico Henry (knee), Aaron Hickey (thigh) and Josh Dasilva (knee) remain out.
