Demi Moore gives a rare update on Bruce Willis’ battle with dementia

Demi Moore opens up about Bruce Willis’ battle with dementia.

“Under the circumstances, he is in a very stable situation at the moment,” the 62-year-old actress said in an interview with CNN published on Friday. “And I’ve shared this before, but I really mean it sincerely. For anyone who is struggling with this, it is so important to really meet them where they are and so much love and joy comes from that place.”

Moore added that watching a loved one struggle with the disease is “very difficult” and that it’s “not what I would wish on anyone.”

Moore and Willis, 69, married in 1987 before separating in 2000. The exes have three daughters together: Rumer, 36, Scout, 33, and Tallulah, 30. The “Die Hard” alum married Emma Heming Willis in 2009. They have two daughters together: Mabel, 12, and Evelyn, 10.

In March 2022, Willis’ family announced that he would be retiring from the entertainment industry after being diagnosed with aphasia.

“As a family, we would like to let Bruce’s amazing supporters know that our beloved Bruce has health challenges and was recently diagnosed with aphasia, which affects his cognitive abilities,” they wrote in a joint Instagram statement at the time. “For this reason and with great consideration, Bruce is stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him.”

The family’s message continued: “This is a truly challenging time for our family and we are so grateful for your continued love, compassion and support. We are going through this time as a strong family unit and wanted to include his fans because we know how much he means to you and yours. As Bruce always says, ‘Live it,’ and together we plan to do just that.”

It was later revealed that the action hero suffered from frontotemporal dementia (FTD), a progressive and fatal disease that affects behavior, speech and occupational performance.

During The Drew Barrymore Show in September, Moore shared the advice she gives her daughters as they navigate their father’s health issues.

“What I tell my children is that you meet them where they are. You don’t hold on to who they were or what you want them to be, but who they are in that moment,” the actress explained. “And from that comes so much beauty and joy, love and sweetness.”

Moore explained that she tries to spend as much time as possible with Willis and her family.

“When I’m in LA, I go by every week and I really appreciate the time we all spend together,” she said.

In May, Rumer spoke to Fox News Digital about her father’s diagnosis.

“I think the incredible thing about this experience for me is that my father is so loved, and that was so clear in the transparency with which we shared,” the actress shared.

“And I think if there’s any way we can share our experience that brings hope – whatever comes up as a family – that can have an impact and provide some kind of hope and comfort to someone else experiencing this, then for me that’s… everything.”

During the Thanksgiving holiday, Bruce shared a touching moment with his girls that was posted on social media.
