Jalen Johnson makes a bold statement about Trae Young after the Hawks star’s win over LeBron James and the Lakers

There were several points in last night’s game where it looked like the Atlanta Hawks’ winning streak was about to come to an end. The Lakers were struggling a lot before today’s game, but they had phenomenal performances from LeBron James and Anthony Davis, and it looked like those two did just enough to beat the Hawks.

But the Hawks kept fighting back and overcoming it all.

One of the best NBA games of the entire season took place tonight at State Farm Arena. The Hawks and Lakers played a hard-fought game that went into overtime and Atlanta extended its winning streak to six games, although LeBron James had his best game of the season with a triple-double (39 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds) and Anthony Davis totaled 38 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists. Trae Young had 31 points and 20 assists, including the game-winning shot, and De’Andre Hunter (26) and Bogdan Bogdanovic combined for 46 points in an incredible Hawks victory

After the game, Hawks star Jalen Johnson shared his immediate thoughts about his co-star:

Atlanta has played really good defense throughout its winning streak, but tonight wasn’t a strong defensive game. The Lakers struggled on that end of the court and were without Austin Reaves tonight, but they continued to shoot 52% from the field and 46% from three. But the fact is that most of the points were scored by James and Davis, who were incredible. The Lakers’ bench did them no favors and Atlanta’s bench outscored them 65-17. The Lakers’ supporting cast has taken a lot of criticism this season and did nothing to stop the criticism tonight.

The night Young had will draw attention (as it should), but the Hawks are getting a version of De’Andre Hunter they’ve never had before. Hunter had an incredible performance coming off the bench, and that continued tonight, in a game where he and LeBron James went back and forth. Hunter scored 26 points off the bench, shooting 9-15 from the floor and 5-7 from three. Hunter has been incredible for the Hawks this season and should receive more recognition around the league for his performance.

This was also a great night for Bogdan Bogdanovic, who scored 20 points and hit plenty of timely threes. Bogdanovic finished the game 4-9 from three and 7-13 from the field, joining De’Andre Hunter on the Hawks’ bench.

Johnson is playing like an All-Star and Young continues to be the league’s best passer and facilitator. The star duo propelled the Hawks to the No. 5 seed in the Eastern Conference, and it doesn’t feel like it was a fluke either. These two players are leading the franchise in a positive direction and it doesn’t look like they are slowing down.
