Will Cam Skattebo break the Big 12 Championship Game rushing record against Iowa State?

Arizona State’s football senior running back had quite the performance in the first half of the No. 13 Sun Devils’ Big 12 championship game against No. 16 Iowa State. On his first run of the game, Skattebo fended off a few tackles and found some green for a 28-yard run. That just set the tone for his first half.

Skattebo finished the first half with 10 carries for 140 yards and two touchdowns as Arizona State built a 24-10 halftime lead with a chance to win the conference championship and clinch a spot in the 12-team College Football Playoff . Of the 140 yards, 90 came after contact.

On the Sun Devils’ third drive, he added a 47-yard run before capping the drive with a 3-yard touchdown run. With 1:40 left in the half, Skattebo fended off a few more tackles, found the open field for a 53-yard run and capped the drive with a 2-yard TD run.

Most rushing yards in Big 12 Championship games

Skattebo added 26 more rushing yards on Arizona State’s first drive of the second half. He’s up to 166 rushing yards with 7:32 left in the third quarter.

Former Kansas State and Philadelphia Eagles star Darren Sproles holds the single-game record for rushing yards in a Big 12 championship game against Oklahoma. He ran 22 times for 235 yards in the Wildcats’ 35-7 victory over the Sooners in the 2003 Big 12 championship game.

Sproles also added three receptions for 88 yards, including a 60-yard touchdown in the win. Skattebo still has a lot to do to keep up with the storming performance. He also has some work to do on the receiving end as he had one catch for five yards.
