Cam Skattebo achieves Heisman pose after big run sets up ASU TD

Cam Skattebo thinks he’s more deserving of Heisman attention if his touchdown celebrations in the Big 12 title game are any indication.

The running back made the signature Heisman pose after his touchdown run gave ASU a 17-10 lead in the first half against Iowa State on Saturday.

It came a few moments after he broke five tackles on a 47-yard run to start the drive.

Quarterback Sam Leavitt had his own 14-yard tackle break rush after the pocket collapsed one play before the touchdown.

“He dominates games at a really high level against some very physical defenses,” Leavitt said of Skattebo on Tuesday. “What no one understands… is how much he really does with small gaps.” When they have an extra batter, he misses and scores a lead of 17, making it look so effortless.

“How well he understands protections, how well he understands the game overall, there’s just so much that he does that people don’t even see. … The fact that he’s not higher in the Heisman rankings is pretty crazy to me, and this week he’s going to prove to everyone why he should be.”

Skattebo scored a second touchdown, tying the all-time single-season program record (19, Woody Green), and hit the pose a second time. The score was again tied by a big run after Skattebo ran 53 yards to start the drive.

After the second touchdown gave ASU a 24-10 halftime lead, Skattebo rushed for 140 yards on just 10 carries. Leavitt had 28 yards on five carries and a rushing touchdown.

ASU got two straight stops when the second-team All-Big 12 kicker hit a 46-yarder to left, and the Cyclones took the lead with a three-pointer on the next play.
