A big takeaway from the Bruins’ comeback win over Flyers

BOSTON – The Bruins really need to get to grips with special teams because they can’t keep winning at this rate.

Boston’s interim coach Joe Sacco managed to get things right – albeit for a relatively short time – when he was appointed to his new role, as the club’s power play percentage and penalty kill in its first games behind the Bostonians Share improved bench.

Now, however, things are going backwards.

Boston finished 1 of 6 on the power play and just 1 of 2 on the shootout on Saturday, but was still able to secure a 4-3 overtime win over the Philadelphia Flyers at TD Garden.

Charlie McAvoy was (quite impressively) involved in a total of five penalties, although he took three penalties himself, which resulted in him spending a significant amount of time in the penalty box. Boston did a good job without one of its best hitmen, but the inability to make money on the other end always makes things more difficult than they need to be.

In the end the B’s got it done when Pavel Zacha scored the game-winning goal in overtime, but it didn’t have to be that dramatic.
