Michigan’s Sherrone Moore trolls Ohio State with a flag gesture at the hoops game

Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore is still basking in the glory of upsetting arch-rival Ohio State in Columbus last weekend.

While attending a Wolverines men’s basketball game against Iowa on Saturday at the Crisler Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Moore was shown on the Jumbotron at the start of the first half. After rousing the crowd, Moore raised an imaginary flag four times, referencing the events that led to a postgame brawl following Michigan’s 13-10 win at Ohio Stadium.

In the minutes after their victory in one of college football’s greatest rivalries, the Wolverines celebrated by grabbing a flag and placing it on the Buckeyes’ logo at midfield. The Ohio State players didn’t like it and a fight broke out, culminating in police using pepper spray on the field to break up the fight.

This was far from the only incident of flags being displayed across college football during rivalry week. Other games — like NC State’s win over North Carolina and Arizona State’s win over Arizona — ended with similar postgame scuffles, leading to a larger discussion in college football about whether such taunts should be allowed.

Moore told reporters on Wednesday that he had spoken to his team about stopping flying flags after victories and instead celebrating among themselves.

But given the large crowd at Crisler Center, Moore couldn’t help but point to the biggest win of his head coaching career.
