BOSTON – The Bruins are starting to get a pretty good handle on this whole “overtime” thing.

It was far from rare that they needed overtime to get a result, as Saturday’s victory over the Philadelphia Flyers was their eighth such game of the season – and fifth win.

Almost all of them involved David Pastrnak and/or Pavel Zacha.

Zacha was the hero once again on Saturday, scoring a one-timer from the circle after a beautiful cross-ice pass from Pastrnak. It’s just what they do, because that’s exactly how two straight overtime wins happen.

“(Pastrnak) wants to make a difference out there, especially at the crunch time,” Bruins interim coach Joe Sacco said after the game. “It’s another big game in overtime, him and (Zacha). He has determination and in extra time, when it’s three on three, anything can happen… It was hard for me to see it, but I saw the end result.”

The Bruins have reliable depth in critical spots, which has been a driving force behind their rise back to the top of the Atlantic Division.

Bruins-Flyers produced a few other notable articles on Saturday:

– According to Ty Anderson of 98.5 (The Sports Hub), the B’s continue to lead the world in goals allowed in the final two minutes of a period, allowing Flyers forward Matvei Michkov to increase that number to 11.

– Charlie McAvoy admitted he “saw red” after a couple of altercations with the young striker in the second half, which could well have been the turning point.

– Pastrnak rocked some notable threads on 100 Legends Way on Saturday.

– Boston will embark on a five-game road trip over the next two weeks, with games against the Winnipeg Jets, Seattle Kraken, Vancouver Canucks, Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers immediately on the schedule.

“I think it’s a real sign of your team’s identity: how you play away from home,” Sacco said, choosing to view the trip as a positive. “It’ll be good to get out of there.”

– The Bruins will begin this road trip on Tuesday when they head north of the border for a matchup with the Jets. It will be a late puck drop, scheduled to begin at 8:00 p.m. ET after an hour of pregame coverage on NESN.
