Georgia wins SEC championship in overtime thriller

The Georgia Bulldogs were crowned SEC champions after a huge overtime win.

Sixty minutes of football was not enough to crown a winner between the Georgia Bulldogs and the Texas Longhorns, as the Georgia Bulldogs could only be crowned SEC champions after overtime. The final score was 22-19

At the beginning, both teams struggled to gain a foothold on offense as the halftime score was only 6:3. The biggest story of the first half, however, was the injury to Bulldogs quarterback Carson Beck. On the last play of the first half, Beck suffered an injury to his throwing arm and had to miss the rest of the game. Gunner Stockton played the entire second half and led the Dawgs down the field for a touchdown on his first drive.

The game’s defining moment came in the final three minutes when the Bulldogs held a one-point lead. Texas intercepted a pass from Gunner Stockton for the go-ahead score at the 34-yard line. The Longhorns were able to get the ball into the Bulldogs’ red zone and score a game-winning field goal, sending the game into overtime.

The Longhorns had the ball first and ultimately settled for a field goal, giving Georgia a chance to win the game with a touchdown. It was Carson Beck who came in for the final play of the game as Trevor Etienne scored a touchdown, giving the Dawgs the victory.

With the win, Georgia has now earned a bye week. Coverage of the final College Football Playoff selection show begins tomorrow at noon.
