‘Please retire’… Fans are begging the 40-year-old former champion to stop fighting after he was beaten at UFC 310

Fans bombarded former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman with calls to retire following a one-sided loss at UFC 310.

Chris Weidman’s recent UFC comeback at UFC 310 didn’t go according to plan. After a back-and-forth first round with middleweight Eryk Anders, Weidman lost in round 2 when Anders wore him out with ground-and-pound and wrestling control.

Despite a win in his last fight before UFC 310, Weidman looked almost 40 years old in the Octagon. With 10 seconds left in round 2, the referee stepped in to save Weidman from further back injury and waved off the fight.

Weidman’s initial protest against the suspension was met with no support on social media. After the loss, fans and pundits on Twitter tried to get Weidman to hang up the gloves.

Fans and pundits are begging Chris Weidman to retire after UFC 310

Here’s what UFC Twitter had to say about Weidman’s recent loss.

This isn’t the first time the UFC community has come together to force Weidman to retire. After a loss to Brad Tavares at UFC 292 that resulted in another leg injury, UFC CEO Dana White opined that Weidman should retire.

UFC 310 was a disappointing setback for Weidman after he defeated Bruno Silva at UFC Atlantic City earlier this year. It was his first win in four years and his first triumphant appearance since breaking his leg against Uriah Hall at UFC 261.

During his long recovery, Weidman underwent a second surgery to repair the leg he broke against Hall, further delaying his fighting career.

Chris Weidman’s career is in question after the knockout loss at UFC 310

Weidman finally made a miraculous return to the Octagon at UFC 292, losing by unanimous decision to Tavares. The former defending champion hasn’t looked the same since he lost the middleweight belt to Luke Rockhold at UFC 194, ending his once undefeated reign.

In his prime, Weidman defeated the likes of Anderson Silva, Lyoto Machida and Vitor Belfort in the Octagon. His title win against Silva at UFC 162 is considered one of the biggest upsets in combat sports history.

Despite calls to retire, Weidman has made no announcement about his future at this time. He hasn’t ceremonially taken his gloves off in the Octagon, meaning he could potentially choose to compete at least one more time.
