Charli XCX opens up about nerve damage from touring

Charli XCX gives it her all on stage, but it comes at a price.

In a new video interview with diversity Posted on Wednesday (December 4), the 32-year-old pop star opened up about suffering nerve damage due to his intensity, noting: “I find touring very hard emotionally.”

“I find the stage – especially these days – to be a very angry place for me,” she continued. “I have caused a great deal of physical damage to my body through performing and am often in great pain when I perform. Physically, I have nerve damage in my neck from the things I did on stage.”

Charli is currently preparing for a series of performances in 2025 in support of her critically acclaimed album brat. This year, she hit the road with Troye Sivan for their collaborative sweat hike, an arrangement the “Von Dutch” artist described as “a lot easier and less of an emotional struggle for me.”

“In order for me to perform at a level that I think is good enough, I have to put in a lot of physical effort, and that makes me very angry when I do it,” she added. “It’s kind of a hellhole, but being with Troye alleviates that a lot.”

The video includes a feature interview diversityin which the musician spoke about the surprising success of brattheir insecurities and more. At one point, she shared that her “Sympathy Is a Knife” remix collaborator Ariana Grande gave her advice in several areas, including starting her acting career and hosting SNL. (The “Yes, And?” singer headlined the show in September, followed by Charli in November.)

Charli also remembered the bond with the Evil Star over the lyrics of “Sympathy Is a Knife.” “She had a lot to say,” the “365” artist said of Grande, who Charli said was “attracted” to the track. “We went back and forth on the lyrics and talked about all the knives we both felt in this industry.”
