Tyreek Hill: Traffic charges dropped against Miami Dolphins wide receiver

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill will no longer face traffic charges stemming from a controversial traffic stop in September after one of the Miami-Dade police officers who pulled him over failed to appear in court.

A judge in Miami-Dade dismissed both citations for “lack of prosecution” because Officer Manuel Batista failed to appear, court records showed Monday.

The dismissal of the charges comes less than three months after a traffic stop showed officers pulling Hill from his car, handcuffing him and laying him face down on the road after he did not immediately comply with their commands .

Other Miami Dolphins players who stopped to help Hill were also treated aggressively.

Bystanders and police body-worn cameras captured the Sept. 8 incident.

Hill received two citations for the stop outside Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. He had previously pleaded not guilty to careless driving and failure to wear a seatbelt.

On X, formerly known as Twitter, the 30-year-old posted a link to an article about his firing and wrote: “Where are all the internet cops now?”

Danny Torres, another Miami-Dade officer involved in the stop, was placed on administrative leave just days after the incident, CNN previously reported.

“Officer Torres and Batista’s absence from court today demonstrates that they are aware of the misconduct,” Hill’s attorney Julius Collins wrote in a statement to CNN. “We understand that Officer Torres and Officer Batista did not appear in court so they could not be questioned under oath.”

Miami-Dade police called it an “oversight” as the reason the officer didn’t show up for the hearing.

“The Miami-Dade Police Department is aware that a number of citations against several individuals, including the non-criminal citations against Mr. Tyreek Hill, were dismissed because the officer did not attend the hearing,” a police statement said .

“A subpoena dismissed for this reason does not mean that the subpoena was without merit. An internal review into why the officer failed to appear in court found an oversight on his behalf. This matter will be dealt with administratively.”

CNN has reached out to Hill’s agent and the Dolphins for comment.
