The Liam Neeson thriller is one of the top 10 films on Netflix

Over the last two decades, there have been few, if any, action stars as busy as Liam Neeson, and in that time he has starred in a slew of box office hits alongside numerous misfires. In fact, his filmography is now so extensive that there’s a good chance you’ve never heard of some of his films, including the really solid action thriller Run all nightwhich finds new life on Netflix in the middle of the holiday season.

It was directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, who also directed “ Unknown And Non-stop, Run all night The film stars Neeson as former Irish mafia hitman Jimmy Conlon, who goes on the run with his estranged son Mike (Joel Kinnaman) after killing the son of a mafia boss.

Not all of Liam Neeson’s thrillers hit the mark, Run all night has the advantage of an absolutely stacked supporting cast. In addition to Joel Kinnaman, the film stars Ed Harris as Jimmy’s old boss Shawn Maguire, Common as assassin Andrew Price, Vincent D’Onofrio as Detective John Harding and Boyd Holbrook as Shawn’s son Danny.

With a 59% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it’s certainly not Neeson’s most critically acclaimed film, but it’s far from his worst. In fact, some critics were impressed with Neeson’s performance in the more by-the-numbers crime thriller.

“The film is predictable and obvious, and it also feels a bit long, but who cares?” Neil Rosen wrote in his review for New York’s NY1. “It’s an entertaining action film with Neeson doing what he does best these days – delivering satisfying results.”

“On the whole, Jaume Collet-Serra makes a character-driven drama about honor betrayed, and the result is a film that is more similar in spirit to the lush crime novels of Dennis Lehane than to silly multiplex fare,” he said Time outs Joshua Rothkopf.

As with most of Neeson’s recent action films, you’ll have a lot more fun if you know what you’re getting into before you start. This was clearly the case for countless Netflix subscribers, as the film now sits at number 4 on the Top 10 Movies chart.
