Oregon beats Penn State in Big Ten Championship Game behind Dillon Gabriel’s 4 touchdowns: Live reaction and updates

Oregon is one of the most recognizable and best-dressed brands in college football, with a well-known quarterback in Dillon Gabriel. The Ducks are now playing in the Big Ten, are undefeated and are the best team in the country making the playoffs.

So why do these Ducks feel like the quietest No. 1 team in a long time? Despite plenty of talent and success, Oregon hasn’t achieved the level of attention or conversation that other top teams enjoy this season. Some of this is a result of the schedule: The home win over Ohio State was a big moment, but the win over Boise State came back on Sept. 7, and there weren’t many other top matchups. Maybe there is also some time zone distortion.

Whatever the reason, Oregon showed why it deserves the No. 1 spot with its win over Penn State. The Ducks scored 45 points and racked up 466 total yards, including 283 passes and four touchdowns from Dillon Gabriel. The offense can beat you running or passing. And admittedly, a top-15 defense didn’t always look like this Saturday when it allowed 518 yards, but it did throw two huge interceptions – one that led to an instant touchdown and one that iced the game.

Everyone is watching now, and Oregon appears primed to be a force in the 12-team playoffs as it seeks its first national championship since Florida in 1996.
