Mark Pope, Jaxson Robinson and Andrew Carr recap Kentucky’s win over Gonzaga

Mark Pope, Jaxson Robinson and Andrew Carr met with reporters in Seattle after No. 4 Kentucky’s 90-89 overtime win over No. 7 Gonzaga. After taking over the point guard position when the Cats were without both Lamont Butler and Kerr Kriisa in the second half, Jaxson Robinson had the honor of giving the opening speech.

“Great team win. I know the first half was a bit tough, but this team is resilient. The coach talks about all this all the time, but especially before halftime we are a great team that makes adjustments. It was a great win.”

Yes, that was it. Pope took the opportunity to praise Robinson by telling a story about how he had to play point guard several times last season at BYU and vowed never to do it again. Not only did he do it tonight, he helped lead the Cats to their second big win of the season.

“I’m telling you, he’s special, man. What Jaxson has done defensively over the last three or four games is breathtaking, and in terms of toughness, he’s unbelievable, and on top of that, he made incredibly difficult shots in overtime. He was really special, man.”

Check out everything below, including Pope’s comments on switching between zone and man-to-man defense in the second half and the latest on Kerr Kriisa and Lamont Butler. And then watch it again tomorrow morning (this morning? It’s late.).
