“I apologized to him”…Dana White reveals the conversation he had with the commission after the controversial UFC 310 decision

“I apologized to him”…Dana White reveals the conversation he had with the commission after the controversial UFC 310 decision

At UFC 310 on Saturday, top heavyweights Ciryl Gane and Alexander Volkov battled to an extremely close decision, with the Frenchman slightly ahead on the judges’ scorecards.

Prior to his UFC 310 fight against Ciryl Gane, Alexander Volkov was on a four-fight win streak and a win over “Bon Gamin” would have put him in the heavyweight title shot.

Nevertheless, after almost three rounds, the judges left the decision to former interim winner Gane, which even he wasn’t too happy about, as he stormed out of the Octagon shortly after his fight before returning and claiming he had broken his toes.

Dana White reveals the conversation he had with the commission about the decision

Judging UFC fights continues to be an issue every week, but unfortunately it is out of the hands of the promotions as the commission is responsible for the judges they employ.

However, after the big heavyweight bout, UFC CEO Dana White decided to get answers from the commission about how it arrived at its controversial rating of the fight.

“So this is what happened after that fight: you heard the boos, I went to Volkov, I apologized to him, I thought he won the fight,” he began at the UFC 310 post-fight press conference explain.

“And then the head of the commission came and said, ‘Listen, we feel like the second round was really close and could have gone either way. Both guys were shaken’, I can’t remember which (fighter) they thought it was. But the worst was in the second round, you know.

“They argued why the fight was judged the way it was. I also had a problem with the (Bryan) Battle fight. “It doesn’t fucking matter what I think, it really doesn’t because at the end of the day they decide who wins and loses, not us,” White continued.

Bryan Battle picked up a decision win over Randy Brown after losing 4 pounds in weight on Friday, which White and a large majority of the fan base also viewed as a controversial decision.

Alexander Volkov reacts to the judges’ scorecards after his defeat

After his winning streak took a hit due to the controversial decision, Volkov shared his reaction to the scorecards online after being left fuming.

“I’m just confident that I won the fight… I’m confident that I won… I don’t know what you can do about it, behind the scenes. I was approached by UFC bosses, including the main boss, everyone thinks it is wrong. “Decision, honestly I don’t know what can be done now,” Volkov said in a post on social media.

“I won this fight 100%. What did the judges see? Who were the judges? I don’t know,” he continued.

However, Volkov then discovered that one of the judges was Adalaide Byrd, a judge who had been involved in controversial boxing rankings before resigning from her position.

“I don’t know if she’s working on her skills as a judge or if she just comes to the fights sometimes because she likes it and gives away the win wherever she wants. Maybe she liked Ciryl Gane’s body more,” Volkov said in the post-fight press conference.

Both Byrd and Junichiro Kamijo scored in rounds one and two in favor of the Frenchman, allowing the Russian heavyweight to reach the final round. Eric Colon disagreed and seemed to agree with White and Volkov, scoring “Drago” in rounds two and three.
