Meet Gout Gout, the 16-year-old Australian sprinter who posted the fourth fastest time by an Australian in the 100 meter dash on Friday December 6th.

Gout, widely touted as the next Usain Bolt, clocked a time of 10.04 seconds in the heats of the All-Schools Athletics Championships in Queensland.

According to CNN, the sprint was the fourth fastest time by a sprinter of any age.

Unfortunately, Gout’s sprint is not included in the official records because it is wind-assisted (which happens when the tailwind exceeds 2.0 meters per second, according to NCAA.com), CNN reported.

After setting the fourth-fastest time in the heats, Gout raced again on Friday, running the final in 10.17 seconds – the sixth-fastest time for a sprinter under 18 – beating his previous personal record of 10.29 seconds .

Gout told Athletics Australia after the race that he had been “chasing this national record for some time.”

“In the heat I thought I had it done, but there was a crazy tailwind so I just did the same thing and got the job done.”

The previous Australian under 18s who held the record was Sebastian Sultana with 10.27.

In January, Gout will train with Olympic gold medalist Noah Lyles – who won gold in the 100-meter backstroke at the 2024 Paris Olympics in August – and Lyles’ coach Lance Brauman, he told Athletics Australia.

“Hopefully we can qualify for the World Cup in Tokyo… If not, I’ll just finish my school in Grade 12,” he told The Australian magazine.

After the video of Gout’s race was shared online, users on X (formerly known as Twitter) reacted strongly to the young sprinter’s abilities.

“So fast they had to call him twice,” one user wrote, while another said: “Future Olympic champion.”

Another user predicted that Bolt’s previous record “could be destroyed before this boy turns 20” after watching the impressive sprint.

On Saturday, Gout will compete in the 200-meter race in Queensland.
