After more than a month of speculation and rumors, Juan Soto is reportedly expected to stay in New York.

But no, we’re not talking about the superstar outfielder maintaining his partnership with the Yankees.

USA Today’s Bob Nightengale released his latest on the Soto Sweepstakes on Sunday morning, which is expected to close soon. The experienced Major League Baseball insider emphasized that the club expects the 26-year-old to sign a record-breaking contract.

“The New York Mets remain the favorites, executives say, but officials warn that the Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays and Boston Red Sox are all in the same $700 million-plus neighborhood,” Nightengale wrote.

Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported Saturday evening that both the Yankees and Mets had increased their offers for Soto to a total value of over $700 million. Heyman, another trusted insider, also claimed the Mets’ offer was “slightly higher” than their neighborhood rival, consistent with owner Steve Cohen’s typically aggressive approach.

So while several clubs still appear to be in the running, we shouldn’t be at all surprised if Soto ends up leaving the Bronx and taking his talents to Queens.
