Skeleton Crew’s release date on Disney Plus is moving

Good news for everyone who can’t wait to watch Skeleton Crew on Disney Plus this December. The Star Wars series release date has just been pushed back a day earlier than before.

Previously, Skeleton Crew was set to air on December 3rd, but now Disney is setting its release date for Monday. Released December 2nd at 6:00 PM PT, 9:00 PM ET. Why? Who knows, but I like when Disney releases at night instead of at 3 a.m. to release in the morning while trying to avoid spoilers the following day.

Here’s the official synopsis for the Goonies-inspired Skeleton Crew, in case you forgot:

“Skeleton Crew tells the story of four children searching for their home planet after becoming lost in the Star Wars galaxy, and the strange aliens and dangerous places they encounter on their adventure.”

The biggest mystery is the character of Jude Law, who at first seems like some kind of sleeping Jedi, but there are hints that his character might be more complicated, which is often the case with these things lately. This show takes place five years after Return of the Jedi, in which, with a few exceptions, there weren’t supposed to be any Jedi not named Skywalker. Jude Law could be one of them.

While “Skeleton Crew” will undoubtedly be watched by adult fans, the series is aimed primarily at children in a way that not many recent Star Wars projects from “Andor” to “The Acolyte” have . Creator Jon Watts sees this as a way to attract new fans without knowing anything about the universe beforehand. You might think the right way to engage new Star Wars fans would be with A New Hope, but here’s what he said:

“I’m excited for people to see Skeleton Crew because it’s the same Star Wars universe you know and love. It’s just a new perspective. The ability to see this world through the eyes of four 10-year-old children, I think is a whole new way to enter this world that some of us know and love, but others may have never really experienced before.”

There are reports that Skeleton Crew could be a Disney Star Wars series aimed at future seasons, rather than a one-off miniseries. That can happen if viewership is high enough, although of course there is budget to consider and like all Disney Star Wars projects it doesn’t look cheap. “The Acolyte” cost $180 million, wasn’t watched enough, and was immediately canceled. Skeleton Crew suffers from the same problem of having no “known” Star Wars character to reinforce it, and with a big budget it could run into the same problems. We’ll find out soon.
