George Pickens fined over $20,000 after criticizing head coach’s behavior: report

George Pickens’ actions on the field have once again troubled him.

The Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver has reportedly been fined for the fourth time this season, and his latest penalty is his costliest yet.

Pickens was reportedly fined $20,462 for two unsportsmanlike conduct penalties, one of which involved the use of a finger gun after a long reception.

He was also fined three times last year – his previous six penalties resulted from a blindside block, two taunts, displaying a personal message and two excessive face masks.

The fine comes amid criticism from his own head coach Mike Tomlin, who recently said Pickens needed to “grow up in a hurry.”

“It’s an emotional game, man. These division games are big. He has a target on his back because he’s George, he understands that. But he has to grow up. He has to grow up fast,” Tomlin told reporters after Sunday’s game.

Pickens’ behavior has come under scrutiny this season. He got into an argument with Cleveland Browns defenseman Greg Newsome II in their game on Thursday night last month. He was also accused of aborting playoffs earlier this season.

Pickens’ exchange with reporters the day after Thanksgiving also caused a stir. While speaking to reporters, Pickens channeled former NFL running back Marshawn Lynch’s viral moment from Super Bowl media day in 2015.

The 23-year-old has 55 receptions for 850 yards and three touchdowns this season.
