NYPD releases two new photos of a man wanted in the murder of UnitedHealthcare’s CEO

New York police released two new photos Saturday of a person wanted in connection with the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

According to the NYPD, the photos are the most recent photos of the same person wanted for questioning in Wednesday’s murder.

In one of the photos, the person can be seen through the partition of what appears to be a New York taxi. She wears a blue medical mask and a black hoodie.

In new images released by the New York Police Department on Saturday, a person of interest is seen being questioned in connection with the shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

The other photo, taken from inside a car, shows the man outside the window walking alongside the vehicle while wearing the same blue mask and a dark quilted jacket with the hood pulled over his head.

The NYPD said investigators were able to track some of his movements by taxi.

As the investigation into Thompson’s killing and the search for the shooter continued into Saturday, three sources familiar with the investigation told NBC News that there was still no identification of the person in question.

The FBI, Crime Stoppers and NYPD are offering a total reward of $60,000 for information leading to the shooter’s arrest.

Officials said Thompson was shot outside New York’s Hilton Midtown Hotel as he was on his way to the UnitedHealth Group investor conference Wednesday morning.

Thompson was shot at least once in the back and once in the right calf. He did not travel with security personnel.

“Based on the evidence we have so far, it appears that the victim was specifically targeted,” NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said earlier this week. “But at this point we don’t know why.”

New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said Wednesday that it was a “premeditated, pre-planned targeted attack.”

Shell casings found at the scene were marked “deny,” “delay” and “depose,” police said.

The police also found a gray backpack in Central Park that the person they were looking for was said to have been carrying at the time of the killing. Officials were investigating whether it was indeed the same bag, two senior law enforcement officers told NBC News.

A cellphone was found by police near the crime scene and investigators are trying to use it to learn more about the man’s contacts and his movement, two sources familiar with the investigation said.

Four sources familiar with the investigation told NBC News on Saturday that no weapon was found in the backpack. Three sources said there was a jacket in the bag, but it remains unclear whether it was the jacket the gunman was wearing at the time of the shooting.

Authorities believe the man wanted in connection with the killing may have left the state.

Kenny told reporters that the video shows the man riding a bicycle through Central Park and then taking a taxi to the Port Authority bus station near the George Washington Bridge.

Investigators are looking for more videos to determine whether he got on a bus from there and if so, which one.

Police believe he may have traveled by Greyhound bus from Atlanta to New York City last month, three senior law enforcement officials familiar with the case told NBC News. The bus arrived in New York on November 24 after making several stops along the way, they said.

Officials in New York are checking to see if they can find a name used for the Nov. 24 trip, and both Atlanta police and Greyhound are assisting in the investigation.

While in New York, the man stayed at a hostel on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, the NYPD said at a briefing Friday. Authorities are currently investigating whether he paid cash and used a fake ID to rent a room there.

Hostel roommates said he kept his mask on at all times, including while eating, and only pulled it down to eat a bite, the NYPD said.

Thompson’s wife, Paulette Thompson, told NBC News on Wednesday that her husband had received threats, but she did not know the nature of them.

“There had been some threats,” she said. “Basically, I don’t know, a lack of reporting? I don’t know the details. All I know is that he said there were some people who threatened him.”
