New York Jets vs. Miami Dolphins game inactive

The Jets have a lot to play for in their final five games of 2024, and in addition to the pride that QB Aaron Rodgers leads, Sunday would also be pride in winning a game at Hard Rock Stadium and putting the Dolphins in their place again.

They have lost eight games in a row at Aqua & Coral’s home base. Two of those losses were Miami shutouts in 2020 and last season, and the other six were Jets losses by just one point, by scores of 4, 3, 7, 6, 7 and 5. The drought lasted so long that the Jets’ last away win against the ‘Fins’ was not in Miami, but in London in 2015 with 27:14. Their last road win in South Florida was 37-24 in the ’14 season finale, when the stadium was known not as the Hard Rock but as Sun Life.

While the Jets, at 3-9, are hoping for some wins to carry into the offseason, the Dolphins find themselves in a similar situation to their AFC East brethren a few weeks earlier. If they were to top the standings – which would include a win over the Jets at MetLife Stadium in the season finale – they would be 10-7 and in line for the AFC postseason roster.

QB Tua Tagovailoa, recovering from his month on the sidelines due to a concussion during one of his strongest single seasons, lamented last week his team’s still weak postseason position. “I don’t think that reflects the character of our team,” he said of the “Fins” 5:7 record.

The Jets will have to contend with Tagovailoa’s NFL-record 75.4% pass accuracy and career-high 110.0, as well as old nemesis WRs Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle (but not RB Raheem Mostert, who is inactive today). And they will be without RB Breece Hall (knee) and CB Sauce Gardner (hamstring), both of whom are inactive, as well as defensive leader and MLB player CJ Mosley (neck), whose mostly lost season ends on injured reserve.
