The bettor is backing the Eagles to beat the Panthers by betting $3.1 million

A Kentucky bettor is betting $3.1 million on the Philadelphia Eagles to beat the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, one of the largest bets ever reported on an NFL regular-season game.

Circa Sports took the Eagles moneyline bet on Thursday afternoon at odds of -700, which would net a profit of about $442,800. In response, the sportsbook moved its line for Philadelphia to -870 and extended Carolina to +650 on Friday morning. Other sportsbooks have Philly odds at -675, with the Birds giving the Panthers about 13 points at the market-wide spread.

Derek Stevens, owner of Circa Sports, told ESPN that the bettor initially bet $1 million on the Eagles, then asked to bet more and ended up betting $3.1 million on Philadelphia . It was the largest bet the sportsbook had ever taken, Stevens said. “I told my guys in the risk room to get to work and buy the Panthers back,” Stevens said Friday. “Now that we’re in five states, we should have the liquidity to get enough buybacks to where we ultimately need the Eagles.”

“We have the best Panthers price (money line) on the field right now and will be big fans of Bryce Young on Sunday,” Circa sportsbook director Jeff Benson told ESPN via email.

ESPN BET reports that Philadelphia is the most bet money line as well as the second highest bet on the spread based on total tickets. The Eagles are also the most-bet moneyline pick on DraftKings, measured by stakes and handles, and BetMGM says the Panthers (+575) are the second-most underdog to win overall, measured by total tickets .

“Eagles-Panthers is the highest-stakes game this weekend, and it was largely one-way traffic with 70% spread handles and 80% moneyline handles against Philly,” said Adrian Horton, director of North American sports trading at ESPN BET said via email. “We opened the game at -12.5 and it’s still going the Eagles’ way, now at -13 as of Friday morning.”

The bet for Sunday’s game in Philadelphia is believed to be one of the largest ever placed on an NFL regular-season contest. In Week 12, a bettor at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas bet $1 million on the Los Angeles Rams to cover a three-point lead over the underdog against the Eagles at odds of -120; LA lost the game 37-20. In January 2023, a bettor lost a $1.4 million live cash bet when the Los Angeles Chargers led the Jacksonville Jaguars 27-0 in the playoffs.

The largest recorded NFL bets of all time all took place in the Super Bowl. Famed bettor Billy Walters reportedly bet $6 million on the New Orleans Saints to score against the Indianapolis Colts in Super Bowl XLIV, while Houston-area furniture salesman and bettor Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale recently placed several bets $3 million has completed championship games.
