Updated bowl predictions after conference championship weekend

Conference Championship weekend is now over and the playoff field and bowl games are about to be determined. Georgia Tech (7-5, 5-3) will play in its second straight bowl game this postseason, but who and where is still the big question. However, there is still one big decision the playoff committee must make. With SMU losing to Clemson, their playoff fate is in the hands of the committee and that decision will likely impact the rest of the ACC bowl teams. If SMU is included, it will open up an ACC Bowl slot, but if they are left out, they will get an ACC Bowl game.

So what do the latest predictions from Sunday morning say about where the Yellow Jackets are headed?

On the Action Network, Brett McMurphy (has SMU in the playoffs) and Georgia Tech face Oklahoma in the Birmingham Bowl. It would be the first-ever matchup between the Yellow Jackets and the Sooners. The Birmingham Bowl was a popular event for Georgia Tech.

At 247Sports, Brad Crawford also has Georgia Tech in the Birmingham Bowl against Oklahoma. Given the location and opponent, this could be an attractive option for Georgia Tech.

ESPN is currently the only major network that doesn’t have Georgia Tech in the Birmingham Bowl. Both Kyla Bonagura and Mark Schlabach have the Yellow Jackets in the Pinstripe Bowl against Nebraska. The two programs have only met once and it is a game that Georgia Tech fans will remember forever. The Yellow Jackets defeated Nebraska 45-21 in the 1991 Citrus Bowl

There are of course other options. There have been numerous predictions in recent weeks that Georgia Tech will be sent to the Sun Bowl, Fenway Bowl, Dukes Mayo Bowl, Military Bowl and Independence Bowl. The final decision will be made and the projections completed this afternoon.
