Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney has more than just a playoff game to look forward to.

His Tigers clinched the final spot in the College Football Playoff with their ACC championship win over SMU on Saturday night. They will travel to Austin to face Texas in the first round, and ESPN’s Molly McGrath reported that Swinney excitedly exclaimed, “I’m going to meet Matthew McConaughey” after hearing the ranking.

Shortly after it was announced that Clemson would play Austin, Texas in the first round, Dabo Swinney exclaimed, “I’m going to meet Matthew McConaughey!” 😂

McConaughey is a Professor of practice in Texas and is a constant presence on the Longhorns’ sidelines during the season. The actor is also a graduate of the university.

While Swinney may have the opportunity to meet McConaughey, the mood at the time of the meeting might be a little less cheerful.

Texas lost to Georgia in the SEC championship game, ending the Longhorns’ bid for a first-round bye. They finished the season 11-2, with both losses coming to the Bulldogs.

Clemson, meanwhile, went 10-3 and needed to win the conference championship to qualify. The Tigers lost to the same Georgia team earlier in the season and suffered additional losses to Louisville and South Carolina.

Texas should enter the game as the favorite, but Clemson’s big win over SMU will give it some positive momentum heading into the matchup.
