Eagles vs. Panthers: Live score updates, highlights, injury news

The Philadelphia Eagles are back at Lincoln Financial Field for the first time since November 14th to take on the Carolina Panthers. The Birds, who hold a 13.5-point lead at home, are seeking their ninth straight win.

If all goes according to plan, the Eagles will leave Week 14 with a record of 11-2. If the Eagles fail to beat the Panthers, it would be a stunning loss that drops the team to 10-3.

FIRST QUARTER

  • The Eagles won the first coin toss and, as usual, decided to postpone the game. The Panthers start at their own 26-yard line. The Panthers scored a first down with the combination of a Bryce Young short completion to Chuba Hubbard and a subsequent Hubbard run. Jalen Carter pressured Young into an incompletion. Then Carter hit Young as the QB threw down to force another off-target throw. On 3rd-and-10, Young threw a slant shot to Xavier Legette, but CJ Gardner-Johnson provided the BOOM (with Sheldon Brown in the house) to force an incompletion. CJGJ and other Eagles defenders celebrated with the “reassurance celebration” that Cooper DeJean used last week after lifting Derrick Henry.
  • The Eagles took over at their own 25-yard line after an illegal formation penalty by the Panthers negated the first punt, which was originally caught fairly at the 11-yard line. The Eagles’ first play was a run by Saquon Barkley… but Lane Johnson had to hold to push the offense back. Jalen Hurst had AJ Brown run wide down the field, but for some reason he declined and checked to Jahan Dotson for five yards. Kenny Gainwell still broke off a 19-yard run for a first down. But then Hurts was sacked for an 8-yard loss. Then a screen was out of sync to bring the third up. On 3rd-and-18, Hurts’ pass to Dotson was deflected. That led to a punt by Braden Mann.
  • A good special teams tackle by Kelee Ringo in punt coverage limited Carolina to a 1-yard return. The Panthers took over at their own 24-yard line. Hubbard ran for the first down with the right edge open to run through. The referees actually called for an offensive holding penalty in favor of the Eagles to put the Panthers back. Then a delay of game penalty set the Panthers back even further. On 3rd-and-13, Young hit Adam Thielen at the marker for a first down. Darius Slay had his hand outstretched to block the pass but failed to actually deflect the ball. On 3rd-and-7, a rushing Zack Baun (looked like he was offside to me from the press box?) got to Young for a big sack to force a punt. Baun makes impact plays week after week.
  • The Eagles took over at their own 10-yard line. A Barkley run and a short Hurts keeper run brought third down. On 3rd-and-2, a designed Hurts run didn’t surprise the Panthers and he was tackled for a loss. Three-and-out. Another annoyingly slow start.
  • The Panthers took over at their own 47-yard line. DeJean fell behind in coverage to allow Thielen to score a 24-yard completion. On the next play, DeJean touched Jonathon Brooks – who slipped – and lost. Facing 3rd and 13, the Panthers came away with a cowardly draw. Does Dave Canales know that his team entered the game as 13.5 point underdogs? The Panthers’ 38-yard field goal attempt was good. EAGLE 0, PANTHER 3.
  • The Eagles took over at their own 30-yard line. Two consecutive Barkley runs resulted in a total of 19 yards and a first down. A bubble screen to DeVonta Smith gained three yards and sparked momentum at the end of the first quarter.

SECOND QUARTER

  • Another Barkley run, another Eagles first down. A quick completion to Grant Calcaterra was called back downfield to Mekhi Becton for an ineligible man. A pass from Hurts was deflected at the line, preventing the ball from entering play for the third time. On 3rd-and-8, Hurts scrambled to find DeVonta free on the left sideline, allowing him to finish all the way to the 8-yard line. Barkley completed a carry to the 1-yard line. Instead of going for a brotherly shove, the Eagles made another Barkley run that resulted in no gain. When the Eagles were faced with 3rd-and-goal from the 1-yard line, this time they did a brotherly shove and got the ball. When the first quarter was over, the Eagles were allowed to score. Good job by the offense to finally wake up with a 10-play, 70-yard TD drive. EAGLE 7, PANTHER 3.
