Sixers Bell Ringer: Tyrese Maxey and Justin Edwards are the only bright spots in the Clippers’ descent

Sixers Bell Ringer regular season rankings:

Jared McCain – 7

Tyrese Maxey – 2

Paul George – 2

Guerschon Yabusele – 2

Kelly Oubre, Jr. – 1

Joel Embiid – 1

After the Philadelphia 76ers won their first regular season game Friday against the Brooklyn Netsthey wouldn’t be able to carry any momentum into their Sunday game against the LA Clippers.

The Sixers gave up a 17-5 run by the Clippers early in the game, capped by a foul by Tyrese Maxey on a three-point attempt by James Harden.

The Clippers could extend their lead to as many as 19 thanks to incredible shooting from the field (52.2%) and from distance in the first half (43.8%), while the Sixers would again struggle to shoot at an average pace the depth (21.1%). Los Angeles didn’t slow down, extending its lead to 31 points after outscoring the Sixers 29-12 in the first eight minutes of the second half. The Sixers as a team would do little to stop the Clippers’ offense as they would concede 64 points in the game and 19 second chance points.

Even when they found open shots, the Sixers didn’t hit them, which was a common theme all season. The visitors’ narrow win left the Sixers looking helpless and drained of energy for 48 minutes, and the final score should reflect that, falling to the red-hot Clippers 125-99. Still, let’s try to find a bell ringer in this chaos of a basketball game.

Tyrese Maxey: 17 points, 4 assists, 4 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 turnover

Although Maxey didn’t fill the stat sheet, he made three of his six attempts from distance and put together back-to-back games of strong shooting after an 0-6 performance from three-point range against the Grizzlies on Wednesday. Since his return from a hamstring injury that caused him to miss six games, Maxey’s minutes have increased each game. Against the Clippers, Maxey had to move a lot for 30 minutes, and he got through the game without any problems. In a game like this, the Bell Ringer is worthy.

Justin Edwards: 4 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist, 6 minutes

If you turned off the game before the fourth quarter, I don’t blame you. But you may have missed Philadelphia native Justin Edwards making his NBA debut with about five minutes left in the game. He would provide a spark during his limited run. He found Ricky Council IV on a transit layup after grabbing a long rebound and pushing up court. He finished off a tough layup after catching a loose ball and made another layup after attacking the defense in transition. Edwards missed his only three-point attempt, but his left-footed shot looks good, so don’t sleep on the Kentucky product. Giving an undrafted rookie some NBA firsts is worth considering for Bell-Ringer.
