The Chargers’ Ladd McConkey is already near Justin Jefferson in key stats

Los Angeles Chargers wideout Ladd McConkey was the best rookie at his position this season.

That’s probably not a sentence even optimistic Chargers fans would have thought at the start of the campaign. But it’s a testament to McConkey’s body of work, so the numbers tell the whole story.

Despite dealing with multiple injuries, McConkey leads the Chargers with 815 yards and four touchdowns. For Justin Herbert, he was the only reliable target on offense all season.

The most important thing of all is that it was him only Man coverage beater for Herbert, which other teams are starting to figure out.

McConkey was so good at it, in fact, that he ranks alongside the likes of Justin Jefferson in statistics specific to men’s coverage, as Yahoo’s Matt Harmon noted:

There are no reinforcements coming this season to bolster the Chargers’ passing attack. But what McConkey has accomplished, largely without the help of other threats on the field, is truly impressive.

It should go without saying, but it should have Chargers fans salivating as they think about what this offense could look like after adding more receiving threats in the offseason.
