It’s time for basketball: Spurs vs. Lakers

Devin Vassell missed a lot of time early in the season, but he will be back in the lineup tonight, which may be needed after a rocky win over the Utah Jazz last night that kept the starters in the game late. The Silver and Black have won four straight, and a win tonight would mark their longest winning streak since the 2018-2019 season. I think everyone expected the Spurs to improve this season, but this kind of bounce is bigger than most expected.

The Lakers suffered a 127:100 defeat in the NBA Cup against the Phoenix Suns in West Group B, in which four teams are now tied at the top with a record of 2:1. The Spurs could decide the winner of the group next week in their game against Phoenix. Today’s game is not part of the Emirates Cup, but it is important for both teams, who are in the play-in part of the standings at the start of the season. The Spurs could move past the Lakers with a win tonight, move closer to sixth place and avoid the play-in tournament. It’s probably too early in the season to worry about the rankings, but it’s fun to think that the Spurs now have a shot at the NBA Cup at the start of the season and the playoffs at the end of the season, after missing for a while.

The Lakers have a tough time with LeBron James and Anthony Davis, especially given the likelihood that Victor Wembanyama will sit out the game after bumping knees with Lauri Markkanen late in last night’s game. The Spurs are a different team this year with Chris Paul and Harrison Barnes and their experienced leadership capable of winning tough games that they would have lost last season, so they will be fun to watch. Let’s see what happens.

Match prediction:

LeBron will miss the game due to a food coma after eating too much Thanksgiving turkey in the pregame meal.

A final word:

Go Spurs GOOOOOO!!
