Jay-Z denies allegations of raping 13-year-old girl with Sean “Diddy” Combs in 2000: ‘Disgusting’

Jay-Z was accused of raping a 13-year-old girl with Sean “Diddy” Combs 24 years ago in a civil lawsuit originally filed in October.

The 55-year-old rapper, whose legal name is Shawn Carter, was named in a civil lawsuit filed by a woman identified only as Jane Doe. According to the amended complaint obtained by PEOPLE, Doe claims she was assaulted after being driven to an MTV Video Music Awards afterparty in 2000.

NBC News was first to report the news.

The same civil lawsuit was originally filed in October in New York City, with the names of two celebrities redacted and only Sean “Diddy” Combs, 55, listed as a defendant. An amended complaint was filed on Sunday, December 8, naming Carter.

In the lawsuit, originally filed on October 20, the unnamed woman claims that she was raped by Combs and Carter while an as-yet-unnamed female celebrity looked on during a party at a New York apartment building after the VMAs.

“Defendant Sean Combs, along with his longtime friend and associate Shawn Carter (aka ‘JayZ’), drugged and raped a thirteen-year-old girl at an afterparty following the 2000 Video Music Awards,” the lawsuit states. “Another celebrity stood by and watched as Combs and Carter took turns attacking the minor.”

Carter shared a lengthy response to the filing on Roc Nation’s X account (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, writing that the filing was an “extortion attempt.” He called the accusation false and turned on Jane Doe’s attorney, Tony Buzbee.

“What he had calculated was the nature of these allegations and public scrutiny would lead me to agree. No sir, it had the opposite effect! It made me want to VERY publicly expose you for the fraud you are perpetrating. So no, I won’t give you a red penny!!” the rapper wrote in part.

“These allegations are so heinous that I am asking you to file a criminal complaint, not a civil lawsuit! Anyone who would commit such a crime against a minor should be locked up, don’t you agree? “These alleged victims would deserve real justice if that were the case,” he continued.

“You made a terrible error in judgment by thinking all ‘celebrities’ were the same,” Carter wrote. “I don’t come from your world. I’m a young man who made it out of Project Brooklyn. We don’t play games like that. We have very strict rules of conduct and honor. We are protecting children, it seems to you.” Only your network of conspiracy theorists, Fake Physics, will believe the idiotic claims you have made against me, which would be ridiculous without the seriousness of the harm to children.

“I’m excited to show you how different I am,” he concluded.

A representative for Carter did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

Combs’ lawyers denied the allegations in a statement to PEOPLE. “This amended statement of claim and the recent extortion lawsuit against Mr. Buzbee expose his barrage of lawsuits against Mr. Combs for what they are: shameless publicity stunts designed to coerce payments from celebrities who fear lies are being spread about them, that is “However, lies have been spread over and over again about Mr. Combs,” the statement said.

“As his legal team has previously stated, Mr. Combs has full confidence in the facts and integrity of the legal process,” the statement continued. “The truth will prevail in court: that Mr. Combs has never sexually assaulted or sexually assaulted anyone – man or woman, adult or minor.”

Jane Doe’s attorney, Buzbee, told PEOPLE in a statement: “The plea speaks for itself. This is a very serious matter that will be heard in court.”

The unnamed woman, who was 13 in 2000, alleges in the lawsuit that she tried to get into the VMAs by standing outside Radio City Music Hall and walking toward limousines that were taking guests into the venue .

According to the lawsuit, a limo driver told Jane Doe that he worked for Combs and that she “fit what Diddy was looking for.” She was invited to an afterparty after the awards ceremony and the driver asked her to return to his car later that evening.

When she arrived at the party, the lawsuit says, she was asked to sign a nondisclosure agreement and was eventually drugged after being given a drink, the lawsuit says.

Jane Doe said she was later approached by Combs, who had a “crazy look in his eyes” and allegedly told her, “You’re ready to party!”

The accuser, now in her mid-30s, then claims that she was raped by an unnamed male celebrity while an unnamed female celebrity watched before Combs raped her, the complaint says.

“Plaintiff was restrained by Carter as he vaginally raped her while Combs and Celebrity B watched,” the lawsuit states. “After Carter finished, he stepped back toward the wall. Combs then stepped forward and vaginally raped plaintiff while Carter and Celebrity B watched.”

The unnamed Jane Doe is seeking unspecified damages, and attorney Buzbee previously said he represents more than 100 people who have accused Combs of wrongdoing.

Combs last appeared in court for his criminal case on October 10 and his trial is scheduled for May 2025.
