San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan provided an injury update following Sunday’s 38-13 win over the Chicago Bears.

Rookie runs back Isaac Guerendowho started in place of the injured Christian McCaffrey and Jordan Mason, left the locker room with just over six minutes left in the game and did not return. Guerendo capped his day with 78 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries.

When asked about Guerendo’s condition, Shanahan said, “We’re not sure. Possibly a sprained foot. The x-rays certainly didn’t show anything, so we’ll have to take a closer look tomorrow.”

Ben BartchReplacing left guard Aaron Banks (concussion), went down during the 49ers’ second offensive drive and was later carted to the locker room. Shanahan confirmed that Bartch suffered a sprained upper ankle. Spencer Burford took over at left defense for the remainder of the game.

The 49ers also had a brief scare at quarterback in the fourth quarter Brock Purdy was hit hard and lay on the ground for a moment. Purdy managed to get off the field under his own power and only missed one play before returning.

“It was just a weird hit,” Purdy said. “My body was in an awkward position and I’ve never been in a situation like that before, so I was just kind of shocked. I felt something in my body and just let myself cool down. This is why I went out to do a play and just made sure I was smart about it and I was fine and I went back in and I was fine.

With a quick turnaround before hosting the Los Angeles Rams on Thursday night, the 49ers face a potential running back shortage if Guerendo is unable to play. Patrick Taylor, who added 25 yards and a touchdown on seven carries against the Bears, would likely start if Guerendo were sidelined.

Asked what Taylor can do for the offense if Guerendo can’t compete, Shanahan said: “I think you guys saw a little bit today. When we gave Patrick runs, back in preseason and in training, he’s a…” “Good runner. He hits the right spots, he runs hard. So he’s a guy who can definitely help us.”

Looking back at previous posts, Shanahan added: “I will say he had some big hits against Seattle. I think it was when JP (Jordan Mason) went out and he spelled Isaac, and today he had to spell Isaac. “And when he came in, he made good use of all his opportunities.”
