Herbert immediately went to the sidelines and was seen pacing, although he was moving very slowly due to the leg injury he had sustained. After replaying the hit, it appears that his left thigh may be the affected area. Either way, it will be hard to lose Herbert in such an important game.

The Chargers face the Kansas City Chiefs in an important division game. While the Chiefs are certainly looking to extend their lead in the AFC, Los Angeles is trying to maintain its top spot in the AFC Wild Card.

The Chargers entered Sunday Night Football with a record of 8-4. With a win against the Chiefs, they would extend their record to 9-4 and move one game ahead of the No. 6 seed Baltimore Ravens.

As already mentioned, Kansas City is looking for its twelfth win of the season. The Chiefs would move to 12-1 and two games ahead of the No. 2 seed Buffalo Bills. The Bills lost to the Los Angeles Rams in the highest-scoring game of the season.

Despite the loss, the Bills are still one of the most talented teams in the AFC. Quarterback Josh Allen became the first player to secure three passing touchdowns and three rushing touchdowns in a single game in the loss to the Rams.

Simply put, the AFC is full of talented teams, and if the Chargers were to move forward without Herbert for an extended period of time, it would be detrimental to their efforts to stay relevant in the AFC playoff race.

Heinicke filled in for the injured Herbert, but the Chargers also have Easton Stick on the team as their third emergency quarterback. In 2023, Stick performed quite well when Herbert underwent season-ending surgery.

Herbert is tough, and the good news is that he appears to have suffered a serious injury just before halftime on Sunday Night Football. The hope is that he can return to the field sooner rather than later. However, he has already struggled with several leg injuries this season.

Herbert will remain on the sidelines for now and will probably try to come back after halftime.
