The Lakers’ Bronny James reaches a new career high with a stint in the G League

Los Angeles Lakers rookie Bronny James returned from a heel injury on Saturday and set a new career high in a G League stint with the South Bay Lakers.

James recorded 16 points, four rebounds, two assists and a blocked shot in a 119-111 win over the San Diego Clippers at the UCLA Health Training Center. He went 6 of 15 from the field in 22 minutes and South Bay improved to 4-6 on the season.

The 55th pick was aggressive with the ball in his hands, resulting in several easy looks in the paint. He also mastered the floor well in transition and converted several difficult shots at the rim.

The Lakers announced on November 30 that James was expected to miss another week due to a bruised left heel. Prior to his game against the Clippers, James had not played since he had four points, two rebounds and two assists in 26 minutes with South Bay in a loss to the Stockton Kings on Nov. 17.

James has totaled four points, two assists, one rebound and one steal in 16 minutes in six appearances for Los Angeles this season. In three games with South Bay, he averaged 8.7 points, three rebounds, 2.7 assists, one steal and one block while shooting 29.4% from the field.

He and his father, LeBron James, became the first son and father to play together in the NBA on October 22. He scored his first career points on October 30 on the road against Cleveland.
