This quarterback just produced one of the greatest plays in NFL history. And it still wasn’t enough

Amid a snowstorm in western New York last week, Buffalo quarterback Josh Allen posted statistics like no other quarterback in NFL history, becoming the first quarterback ever to score touchdowns as a passer, runner and receiver in the same game.

The statistics were unprecedented and helped the Bills clinch a playoff spot in the AFC.

Allen made even more history with his encore on Sunday in Los Angeles.

For the second week in a row, Allen had a record-setting performance against the Rams at SoFi Stadium, becoming the first quarterback in the league’s 104-year history to allow three touchdowns and also score three more touchdowns in the same game. Allen finished the game with 342 passing yards and 82 rushing yards.

And yet his individual brilliance wasn’t enough to help the Bills win on the road, as they lost 44-42. It was the first loss for Buffalo (10-3) since Oct. 6.

The NFL is a league with many of the biggest and fastest athletes in the world. But even among this caliber of athleticism, Allen is so unique that he has been described as out of this world.

“Josh Allen is an alien,” Rams coach Sean McVay told reporters afterward. “We knew he was capable of some things that he could do and create. He showed that. That’s why he’s as respected and respected in this league as he is.”

The historic stats in back-to-back weeks should only reinforce Allen’s case for winning his first NFL Most Valuable Player award. Not that he celebrated his success on Sunday.

“I have to make one more play than them,” Allen told reporters. “It was a total team defeat in three phases. We didn’t live up to our standards.”
