Wintry mix in parts of New England tonight – NBC Boston

The forecast is mixed up this week, with some wintry weather, a sharp warming and another drop in temperatures towards the end of the week. It seems that winter is like this these days.

Winter storm brings masses of snow

First up is a little wintry mix – for something Monday evening. Cold temperatures will be moderate, so we will see some sleet or wet snow mixing with the rain on outer Route 2, the Merrimack Valley and much of southern New Hampshire. A lean coating is possible here. Further north in places like Derry or Manchester this can be closer to an inch. Otherwise it will be a cool, wet storm.

Icy conditions on the roads

As this system moves away, temperatures could fall back near freezing very late Monday evening. This can lead to slippery areas, black ice or freezing fog. Be careful when traveling late at night.

Wind, rain and a rise in temperatures in the middle of the week

On Tuesday we’ll settle into the 40s with cloudy skies and a cool breeze off the water. We’ll push forward Wednesday as rain and wind keep us in the 60s in places late in the day. This is a pretty wild day in terms of temperature and wind. Some gusts could peak around 50 mph as a sharp cold front approaches late in the day. Thunderstorms are quite possible as dew points climb into the 50s and our high temperatures should be after dark. Really crazy.

We’ll drop back into the 30s (again) on Friday and Saturday as a touch of arctic air enters the picture again. The pattern calms down a bit early next week.
