The most shocking snubs and surprises from the 2025 Golden Globe nominations

There were some notable omissions and pleasant surprises among the Golden Globe nominees.

On Monday, December 9, the nominations for the 82nd annual Golden Globes were announced, highlighting this year’s standout films and television.

Emilia Perez had the most nominations among films, 10 in total, and The bear led the TV side with five nominations, followed by Shogun And Just murders in the building with four each.

Comedian Nikki Glaser will host the Golden Globes ceremony, streaming live on CBS and streaming on Paramount+ on Sunday, January 5, at 8 p.m. ET.

Snub: Danielle Deadwyler for “The Piano Lesson”

Despite delivering one of the year’s most acclaimed performances in Malcolm Washington’s directorial debut, Deadwyler was not recognized for her work in the supporting actress category, reflecting her shocking snub Until in 2022. His snub comes as he defends comedic works as “also very difficult” compared to more dramatic works. Comedy, he argued, “has an added dimension in that it is meant to look and feel effortless. Surprise: “The Apprentice”

Director Ali Abbasi’s film about the early rise of Donald Trump has been plagued by controversy since its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May, with the now president-elect’s team denouncing the project and threatening legal action. Star Sebastian Stan later said that others in Hollywood were “too afraid” to discuss his film with him, which resulted in him being unable to attend diversityis the series “actors about actors”. After a few years off, the Larry David comedy returned for a triumphant twelfth and final season in 2024. The Golden Globe-winning comedy’s last hurrah was widely praised by critics as the cast once again showcased their comedic chops. Still, the series, which starred Jeff Garlin, Susie Essman, Cheryl Hines, JB Smoove, Richard Lewis, Ted Danson and Vince Vaughn, among others, failed to garner a Golden Globes nod.

In its third and final season, the groundbreaking series was praised for its poignant ending. The cast, led by Devery Jacobs, D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, Lane Factor and Paulina Alexis, also put their best foot forward. Despite previous honors at the Golden Globes as well as nominations at the Emmy Awards, Critics Choice Television Awards and beyond, the film didn’t make the list this year.

Snub: Vince Vaughn for “Bad Monkey”

The Apple TV+ comedy, starring Vaughn as a detective turned restaurant inspector in South Florida, created a buzz when it premiered in August. Although early predictions suggested at least a nod was possible for Vaughn, the competition this year was fierce. Adam Brody (Nobody wants that), Jeremy Allen White (The bear), Ted Danson (A man inside), Steve Martin (Just murders in the building), Martin Short (Just murders in the building) and Jason Segel (shrinkage) filled the six nomination spots for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Series – Comedy or Musical.

Snub: “Fallout”

Prime Video’s post-apocalyptic drama, based on the video game series by Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky, was an instant smash hit when it released on the streamer in April. Featuring a star-studded cast including Ella Purnell, Aaron Moten, Kyle MacLachlan, Moisés Arias, Xelia Mendes-Jones and Walton Goggins. Stand out has already been nominated for 16 Emmy Awards, including Goggins for Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. But it was skipped for the 2025 Golden Globes.
