New iOS 18.2 RC and more available now, major updates imminent

Apple has released updated release candidate (RC) builds for iOS 18.2, macOS 15.2 RC, and other software betas. These follow the first RC versions that arrived last week and ahead of the expected public launches sometime this week.

What to expect from the RC re-release

Last week, Apple released RC versions of its upcoming iOS 18.2, macOS 15.2, and more. However, as sometimes happens, the company has decided not to ship these RC builds to all users.

Now it’s today’s RC betas that are expected to be the final versions of iOS 18.2 and beyond, with no other changes. Here are the new RC build numbers:

  • iOS and iPadOS 18.2 are build 22C151
  • macOS 15.2 is build 24C100
  • tvOS 18.2 is build 22K155
  • visionOS 2.2 is build 22N841

If you are new to RC betas, you should know that they are not intended to bring new features. Instead, the RC focuses on squashing as many bugs as possible before a software update is generally released.

Apple hopes and expects that today’s RC will be exactly the software that will be delivered publicly. It is very rare that more than two RC models are delivered. However, if a critical bug is discovered, a new RC could appear at any time before the big release.

The biggest highlight will be the second wave of Apple Intelligence features. This includes:

The above features are exclusive to Apple Intelligence-compatible devices, including all iPhone 16 models and the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max.

But there’s also a lot more in iOS 18.2 besides the AI, which will be available on all iPhones. Highlights include a major redesign of the Mail app, new changes to camera controls, Find My, which lets you share an item’s location with others, and more.
