Live MLB Winter Meetings updates: Juan Soto reaction and all the news, rumors and analysis from Dallas

At least for a short time, the Mets took the wind out of the Dodgers’ sails.

In the last 12 months, the Dodgers have acquired Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Tyler Glasnow, Teoscar Hernández, Jack Flaherty, Tommy Edman, Blake Snell, Michael Conforto and Blake Treinen. (Flaherty and Hernández are now free agents, although Hernández may re-sign.)

The Dodgers built a Death Star. It’s not a perfect squad, just as the Death Star itself had critical and narratively practical flaws, but it’s a sight to behold. The Dodgers rotation is a collection of guys with gas, stuff, or both. If they can get even 120 innings out of Ohtani, Yamamoto, Glasnow, Snell, Clayton Kershaw and Dustin May, then those innings will be extremely high quality. The lineup remains strong, led by Ohtani, Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman, but there’s a chance the Dodgers could add to it this winter. They didn’t get Willy Adames, but you can’t count on anyone in free agency.

By the way, if you’re wondering about the impact of all these shifts, this story will provide you with important context.

One of the biggest things emerging from these winter meetings is the potential of another Dodgers appearance. They won’t make the biggest move this winter (the Mets clinched that title), but there’s still room for another big addition.
