Preview: Getafe vs Espanyol – prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Monday’s La Liga clash between Getafe and Espanyol, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Two teams fight for the end La Liga table will lock horns on Monday evening, with Getafe greeting Espanyol to the Estadio Coliseum.

Both teams will enter the game after clashes in the Copa del Rey, with Getafe advancing to the third round with a penalty shootout win over Orihuela, while Espanyol suffered a 2-0 defeat to Barbastro.

Getafe were given a scare by fourth division side Orihuela in the Copa del Rey on Thursday night, but managed to prevail on penalties after a goalless draw and progress to the third round of the competition.

The Deep Blue Ones have a record of two wins, seven draws and six defeats from their 15 league games this season, which leaves them 17th in the table with 13 points.

Getafe have been the draw specialists in La Liga this season, sharing the points seven times, while goals were a real problem in the 2024/25 season, scoring just 10 goals, their worst overall record in the division.

However, the team from the capital showed solid defense and conceded just 13 goals, which is the third-best record in Spain’s top flight behind Atletico Madrid (eight) and Real Sociedad (11).

With a record of four wins, one draw and nine defeats from 14 games, Espanyol is currently in 18th place in the table and has 13 points, level on points with 17th Getafe.

The Catalan team beat Celta Vigo 3-1 in La Liga last weekend, but come into this game after a 2-0 loss to fourth division side Barbastro in the Copa del Rey.

The White and Blue have actually won each of their last three La Liga games against Getafe, including a 2-1 win in the corresponding game in the 2022-23 season.

Since December 2018, Espanyol have only been beaten once in Spain’s top flight by Getafe and therefore have fond memories of their recent encounters with the capital club.

Getafe’s squad will be strengthened with the return of Djene Dakonam And Bertug Yildirimwith the pair most recently missing out against Real Madrid in the league due to suspension.

Carles Alena And Mayor of Borja The team is still unavailable for selection due to injury, but the home team is otherwise in strong shape and the like Mauro Arambarri, Luis Milla And Juan Iglesias will return to the eleven after starting on the bench in the cup.
