Former Devils forward claimed off waivers

The Chicago Blackhawks have granted a waiver to former New Jersey Devils forward Joey Anderson.

The 26-year-old Anderson has played in 12 games for the Blackhawks this season, recording one assist, nine blocks and nine hits. He last appeared in a game on November 23 when the Blackhawks faced the Philadelphia Flyers.

The Devils selected Anderson with the 73rd overall pick in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. The Roseville, Minnesota native played 52 games over two seasons for the Devils, scoring eight goals, 13 points and 58 goals.

Anderson’s time with the Devils ended when he was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for forward Andreas Johnsson before the start of the 2020-21 season.

Teams looking for more depth at attack might consider taking a shot at Anderson. However, should he not qualify for waivers, he will join the Blackhawks’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Rockford IceHogs.
