Weather Update: I-25 closed between Colorado Springs and Denver | Traffic

Colorado Springs residents can expect up to 6 inches of snow Monday, according to the National Weather Service in Pueblo.

As of 12:30 p.m., the weather agency had received reports of 4 inches of snowfall in certain parts of Colorado Springs, which is currently under a winter weather advisory until 10 p.m

The previous snow made for dangerous driving conditions. A spokesman for the Colorado Springs Police Department said Monday afternoon that officers responded to 24 traffic collision calls across the city.

I-25

According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, all northbound lanes of Interstate 25 near Castle Rock were closed Monday morning. As of 2 p.m., the Colorado Department of Transportation traffic map showed no lanes were closed on I-25.

I-25 was closed on Plum Creek Parkway near mile marker 180 after multiple crashes, the sheriff’s office said in a social media post around 10:15 a.m. By 12:30 p.m., the Colorado Department of Transportation had opened a portion of the roadway, but motorists were advised to expect delays.

Toot Boulevard

Colorado Springs police responded to a multi-vehicle crash on Tutt Boulevard near Tutt Center Place on Monday. A CSPD spokesman said the accident occurred around 11:45 a.m. and involved about 10 cars. No injuries were reported.

Tutt Boulevard has now reopened.

Accident report status

Both Colorado Springs and the city of Fountain have announced accident alert statuses.

“Road crews are deployed, but conditions are deteriorating,” said a CSPD statement on X.

Closings

Mountain Metro Transit buses will cease service today at 2 p.m. In a statement, MMT said the bus service would assess the condition later in the day to decide whether to reopen routes. The suspension applies to both regular buses and ADA paratransit service.

The Pikes Peak Library District said in a statement Monday afternoon that all branches would close at noon due to deteriorating road conditions.

Peterson Space Force Base announced an early release for non-mission essential personnel at 2:30 p.m.

Peak Vista Community Health Centers will close at 2 p.m

The city of Manitou Springs announced it would close government offices at 2 p.m

The forecast

After weekend temperatures exceeding 60 degrees in Colorado Springs, a cold winter storm will bring significant changes to the area early this morning.

“It should still snow this morning, so we’ll have dry skies for the morning commute,” said meteorologist Alan Rose of Gazette news partner KOAA. “The snowflakes will then begin flying on Monument Hill between 7 and 9 a.m. and fill out the rest of the Pikes Peak region by the mid to late morning hours.”

The snow will spread further south through the afternoon hours before tapering off from north to south tonight.

“In addition to the snow, it will be significantly colder Monday,” Rose said. “Today, high temperatures will reach 30°C only in Colorado Springs and Pueblo, and mid to upper 20°C in Woodland Park and the Tri-Lakes area.”

Today’s high will be 29 in Colorado Springs, according to the National Weather Service in Pueblo.

There will be some very cold temperatures behind Monday’s departing storm. Tuesday morning will start in the teens with wind chills in the teens in Colorado Springs. Highs on Tuesday will only recover a few degrees, peaking in the mid 30s.

“Starting Wednesday, there will be a return to near above-average highs, with end-of-week temperatures in the upper 40s to lower 50s in the Colorado Springs area,” Rose said.

Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 34. Northwest wind 5 to 15 mph.

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 48. West northwest wind 5 to 10 mph.

Thursday: Partly sunny, with a high near 51. West southwest wind around 5 mph.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 50. West wind around 10 mph.
